Combi boiler noise

I've just had a new boiler put in - an Ideal combi. It makes a peculiar high pitched noise above the (what i imagine to be) combustion noises, that appear to be related to the pump operating. It's quite piercing - I can here it now, two storeys up, clearly. I might not mind, but I chose this boiler partly on the back of a 'quiet' claim made in the brochure.

I've done a recording here:

sort of gives an idea. I guessed at first that it was something making the case ring, but it doesn't seem to be that - makes the same noise with the cover on or off.

Thing is, I don't know what 'normal' is here. The plumber thought it was all OK, but I could ask him to come back and take a second look/listen. Any ideas appreciated.

(well, I could if I could be arsed to, I suppose ...)

I wouldn't expect the pump to turn fast enough to produce a high pitched noise

could be your fan, could be producing a resonance

get a long screwdriver and see if you can use it as a stethescope to home in better

It sounds exactly like my Nans Ideal Isar, quite a noisy boiler tbh but I don't know..you may be experiencing something else.

It would not open so I could not hear it, but maybe a defective pump.

I suspect that the noise is normal, based on experience of my Ideal ISAR. The good news is that it's been reliable over several years.

That's not good news - it's a miracle

:-)

Not sure if that's a reference to Ideal or these things in general - it's an Ideal Logic 30+, a boiler that had a poor early reliability record, but has since been beefed up and comes with a 5 year warranty. We'll see.

We used 800 ICOS / ISAR transformers last year

That represents approaching 1000 faulty modules that we have repaired
