Bosch washing machines?

Bosch is a good choice IME. Had to re-brush the washing machine recently (cheap and easy) but that's been the only problem in about 8 years

New machine is coming tomorrow. Charles' advice about the whitegoods site was useful, and the Bosch site (once I found the right bit) showed the 'rank' of the four different ranges.

Ended up with a Logixx with 10% off from Comet (last day of deal) with (hopefully, if it works) nearly 100 quid cashback from Bosch.

Have to say, I found the most cost-effective way of getting a new Bosch washing machine was to go to Bosch's own site. And enter their monthly draw. Machine arrived a number of weeks later. :-)

Maybe it won't work for everyone?

Worth a try...I've just tried!

Forgot just how many Bosch products there are in the house. A couple 'green' power tools, the Ixo screwdriver, dishwasher, boiler...

Not forgetting outside the house too - lots of car bits (ECUs and the like).

Oh yes. Part of the draw was a question about spark plugs...

Sorry NGK for me ... previous car would not entertain anything else and this one the same (single ignition coil for all 4 plugs easy to damage with the wrong plugs).

It is the Bosch garden goods that have annoyed me. One mower works fantastic does what it days on the tin (plastic). One hedge trimmer after minimal use (but owned for 4-5 years) stopped because the plastics of the trigger were not good enough to push the micro switch. It has been in pieces waiting for some improvisation.

Always found that NGK were the only thing that worked in my Honda CB72 - many years ago!

Oh dear.

I am happy to say that the washing machine was delivered at 9.30 a.m. Now unpacked, installed, levelled, connected...primed with water, initial wash now running. Amazingly quiet compared to the Hotpoint!

The beauty of a Miele is you shouldn't need to buy any spares...

Well since Bob's post was just over 2 years ago, he should be along any minute now to tell us how it's going.

That needs to be qualified - Bosch are in some ways a bit silly, and here's why:

Bosch Logixx IME are good machines for the money. My tumble dryer is still going after more than 14-15 years. Dishwasher died at 10 years. Logixx are (or were when I last checked) made in Germany.

The other sub types (Classixx and Excell(sp?)) are cheaper brands made in Spain (or were when I last looked) under the Bosch name. I would not touch either.

With their tools, everyone knows the difference between blue Bosch and green Bosch because they were clearly marketed from the outset as to their intended customers - and even "green" aren't that bad for DIY unless you really beat them up.

They really, IME, needed 2 levels of consumer whitegoods with clear visual differentiation and should have been utterly clear that one was "cheap and cheerful" (but still competent), and the other was the dog's bollocks.

Mine has been 100% reliable (except that the LCD display died, which is not a problem). And it gets abused washing dogs "vetbed" and horse "boett" rugs. Must be about 10 years old now.

Given that it's all a bit of a minefield, I'm wondering whether extended warranties have a place here. Pay 30-50 quid to get a 3 or 5 year guarantee, and then buy the cheapest machine you can find.

The devil will be the exclusions on the insurance, of course.

Well if he did it will be just about wearing out when you replied then. Brian

Absolutely fine. Zero problems, heavy use. But I did get the Logiix - made in a different factory, to differrent standards, to (say) the Classiix.

If this is true - take advice (politely) from uk.legal.moderated. I think you'll find that this is not regarded as a reasonable lifetime.

But IANAL.
