magnetic cupboard catch lined up

Hi, am putting some new magnetic catches on to all my kitchen cupboard doors. ( the original spring type self-closing hinges are mostly very tired ).

Since the door is actually shut when they are pressed together, you cannot just line them up by sight. Is there any trick for getting the metal plate lined up 'exactly' opposite the magnet catch?

Screw one or the other in place (usually the magnet) put them together and put chalk or lipstick on the back. Close and reopen the door and you will see where to screw it in.

Most metal plates have a sticky backing, if your does not, add some hot glue. Install the magnetic catch, place the plate on the magnet and close the door - press it firmly for a few seconds. Open the door and your plate will be in position on your door - screw the plate into place.

Usually the plate has a 'pip' on the side that goes against the door inner face. Screw the magnet to the cupboard, put the plate on the magnet, pip out. Shut the door and press it into the magnet. Open the door and there should be a small mark on the back of the door where the pip goes, screw plate to door.
