Wendell Castle: A Portrait - Coming to PBS in 2019 (Stack-Laminated Furniture Designer)

WXXI, the local PBS station in Rochester NY, spent a year or so creating a documentary on Wendell Castle prior to his passing earlier this year. Castle lived in the Rochester area and was an Artist in Residence at my alma mater, the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The documentary (info links below) was aired on WXXI earlier this month. I had an opportunity to watch it and I strongly suggest that you all do too. According to their website "WXXI anticipates Wendell Castle: A Portrait will be distributed to PBS stations nationwide in 2019".

I also had a chance to see some of his pieces at an art gallery in Rochester. Until I watched the documentary, I wasn't quite sure how the pieces were made. Once I saw Castle demonstrate his stack-lamination technique, it all made perfect sense. Sort of. ;-)

Seriously - be on the lookout for it. Contact your local PBS station or WXXI to see if you can find out when it will air in your neck of the woods.

Have you seen Fraser Smith's Quilts and Clothing carved from wood? Extremely hard to believe everything on the link below is carved from wood.
