Got some door pull hardware, and they came with those screws that have marks on them for cutting to different lengths.
How does one trim them to the desired length?

yep those are the ones.. how do you prevent damaging the threads maybe wrap a piece of cloth betwen the plier and screw? Jerry
Thread a couple nuts down the screw and hold them with vice grips while you grab the trash end and break it off. That will also dress up the threads when you spin off the nuts, if you ding them.
