Yale wireless alarm issue

Alarm is a Yale wireless HSA 6080 Issue... I press the remote keypad to set, LED lights up but alarm does not beep to set. So change batteries on keypad ..no change. The batteries in the external box are approx 2.5 years old so could be dead, most likely.

My default position is if needs be I will take the box off the external wall and hopefully sort it at ground level.

In the meantime my issue is: I need to use the keypad to disable the alarm, with nothing registering I cant say for sure if it is disabled. So if I put fresh batteries in the external box, is this likely to set the thing off in my earhole? And if it goes off will the keypad turn it off when it hasn?t already been disabled.

I am posting in case anyone has any other ideas before I replace the batteries.
