Wooden slats

I've installed wooden shutters in our three front windows, as instructed by SWMBO. [I think there's only one factory in China where these are made, but up to twelve weeks delivery. Slow boat from China.]



They're well made and easy to install, but in my case the window rebates (probably the wrong word. Recesses?) are 'chamfered', so there are big gaps to fill or at least cover.



There are lots of ways of doing this, but thin slivers of painted wood would be nice. Say 30mm wide, 1.8m long, 3mm thick and easily trimmable.



Like wooden blind slats, but they're not quite there, too narrow and too short. Otherwise ideal. Ideas?

Go and have a look at the wood mouldings in the timber section of your local shed plenty of thin flat or D-shape sections in hardwood and softwood but I think you will be pushing it to get a 30mm section at 3mm thickness, round about 6mm in thickness is fairly standard.

If you really need that 3mm thickness then I think strips of plywood are your only option.

Other alternatives are the cover strips beloved of uPVC installers for covering gaps but that depends on whether you would be happy with the look of uPVC alongside your wooden shutters.

Depends on what lies outside them. Id fill with foam with a skin of something else to make up the 'visible surface'.

Foam insulates, waterproofs, fills all gaps and is flexible and doesn't crack.

Just looks like s*it.

So cover with a tad of (ply) wood for a wood finish or some render for a render finish.

Or as someone else has suggested a cover of thin uPVC foam sandwich which could be painted to disguise that its uPVC for a more cosmetic look
