Wood burner door seal

The seal on our woodburner is coming out - it is a kind of rope that sits in a groove on the door casting.

How do we "glue" it back in - is there a special material or do you use fire cement.

Thanks

There's a high-temperature glue - available from your local specialist stove supplier.... (yellow pages ?)

If they don't stock it then there's also a high-temperature mastic that would do the job. Worth checking that the seal is in OK condition before re-fixing it - as replacing it with a new piece is just as easy as re-fitting the old piece - and may make for a longer-lasting job..

You can get an adhesive for this. Should be available from most wood stove stockists. If not, call Clearview Stoves near Ludlow. They should be able to help. I would think that fire cement would crumble out.

I was told to use Water Glass. It's a clear liquid with caustic warnings on the label. Paint the conc water glass in the grooves then lay the asbestos rope in.

Thank you everyone; I was not aware of the special mastic. Rope is in good condition but will look at replacing it. Just what I needed to know.

It seems that 'asbestos rope' is note asbestos any more. When i renewed the rope on my 'Squirrel' stove then new stuff was glass fibre rope.
