Window frames

What would be the best way of clearing flaking paint from wooden window frames, apart from scraping and sanding is there any chemical alternative.

You could use Nitromors - or you could burn it off with a blowlamp. If you do either of these, you'll end up stripping it all back to bare wood and starting again. If you scrape and sand, you can leave any sound paint in place.

Do beware of blowlamps in close proximity to glass. Some sort of shield between the glass and the wood is a very good idea.
