Wickes Multi Purpose Drill Bit Set 5 Piece

Was looking for the least expensive source of a few smaller Bosch multi-purpose drills and fell across this similar Wickes-branded product:

the fact they would actually be more expensive for my requirement, wondering what experiences anyone here has had of using them?

So far, going into Axminster or Screwfix seems as good a price for the Bosch drills as anywhere - unless you know better?

Genuine Bosch ones are cheaper at Toolsatan...

Thanks - that is good. (Sure I had checked them. Hmmm.) Might go for that set. What annoys me though, is that I would rather swap the 8mm for a 5mm! I have plenty of larger drills (albeit not these multi-purpose), it is in the smaller sizes these seem so good! (Not that the Wickes ones are actually any better in that regard).

Me too! Drill 'sets' annoy me. I use 5,6,7 mm multi purpose bits with the yellow, red & brown Uno plugs & the sets always have a 5.5mm.

I rather like the 5.5mm for 6mm plugs. Gives you a bit of leeway if the wall is soft.

Agreed.

And I would like 4 and 4.5 as well!

If I want a big hole, I would usually use SDS. But these multi-purpose bits are so good for uncertain substrates - and if you can make one small hole then you have a much better idea what you are drilling through.

Maybe I will stump up for buying the individual bits I want at Axminster or Screwfix? Decisions.

I keep a stack of 4mm bits so that every hole starts out that size. Too tight to blunt the bigger ones :-)

I usually buy them individually...

Finally made my decision - will be buying them individually as well! But it is annoying that they are more expensive like that. That is, set of 4 from Toolstation 9.90 and I can hardly get 3 for that.

It would be ok if I used all sizes equally - but the 5, and 6 get moderate use. The 7 gets quite a bit - but I prefer the 6" long versions of those that don't come in the sets.
