Why waterproof Ply?

ITYF the point about "boil proof" is that the ply is tested by boiling it, as an accelerated way of assessing its resistance to weathering.

I believe the difference between WBP and marine grade is that the wood used for marine grade will withstand constant immersion without rotting.

I thought the difference related more to the lack of voids and knots in marine grade - as the first poster quoted above implies.
