put double gang sockets on the front of the chimney breast? this serves no purpose other than have unsightly plugs showing next to the fire surround.



There was ample space to the side ie the alcove wall. Just had to rellocate it there because new surround wouldn't fit as the left post of surround covered just over half the socket.

So you can stick a bookcase/dresser/whatever in the alcove and still use the sockets.

Sometimes these are simply the positions that pertained to the original wiring often in the early C20, at that time the fashion seemed to be to put _the_ socket next to the fire.
