Due to a minor error in specification, the bedroom window with escape opening casement has become a front door.

Re they coming back next week to fit a step?

Supposedly tomorrow. It was supposed to be done today, but they don't work after 2pm.

We'll see if their decking skills are any better than their cutting UPVC trim and siliconing it skills.

and fixing that satellite dish too while they are at it?

Not sure whose that dish is, and the broken cable to the broken wiska box isn't used.

Does it open outwards for a faster exit ?

If that is a bedroom (and always was), why is the cill at DPC level and not 10 brick courses higher up (like the flat above) ?

Yes

The upstairs flats have the bedroom off the hall. The ground floor flat has the bedroom off the lounge as there's a cut-in to form the entrance to the building at the side.

As an internal room it needs a means of escape.

On the subject of DIY, the plant fence is a bed head and foot board and some T&G from the kitchen ceiling.

That sounds interesting. Is this door at first floor level? Brian

Sorry Brian.

It is a ground floor flat, but because of damp proof course and ground level the internal floor is above ground level. Maybe 50 to 60 cm above ground?

The existing bedroom window/door was supposed to be replaced with a similar glazed door with glazed side panel. Instead they turned up with a solid panelled front door and fitted that instead, meaning a distinct lack of light in the bedroom.

The same guys turned up today to fix the step (made out of fence posts and decking) because of the height above ground. Used dirty puddle water to mix the postcrete. The 'inspector' has been round now and realised the step is too high, doesn't have any landing space outside the door, and it's all going to be taken away and redone again next week.

On Saturday the men turned up (on overtime) with a three-step assembly (steps of unequal height) which is resting on packers resting on the grass (because the supports which were provided were only for the one-step step.

On Monday the inspector turned up again, neighbour (he is a larger gentleman) stepped out of the door and the middle step buckled under the weight. It hadn't been braced inside.

Workman reappears a bit later to dismantle steps, fit bracing and reassemble.

On the upside we are accumulating quite a stash of surplus decking which will be turned into planters.

Have they replaced the door with a glazed one?

Not yet; I half expect the handrail will have to come off to enable that to be done :)
