There are advantages! I use tin which is an 'old' text mode/command lne newsreader. It is still maintained with occasional fixes and updates and there is a mailing list which provides excellent support.

For me the advantages are:-

I can ssh into my home server and run tin from *anywhere* to access usenet.

I can use the same editor (a vi clone in my case) that I use for everything else for replying to and composing messages.

It *is* mouse aware so I can select newsgroups and messages by a mouse click.

That depends on the reader being able to successfully interpret the quoting which can be broken by careless snipping. The colouring in of quoted text is simply a local presentation derived purely from correctly formatted ascii text alone.

Opera seems to fail when people use different spacing. If you look above, some people add "> " and some add ">". I think the correct thing to do (as that makes Opera use colours) is to add "> " the first time, then ">" after that. So you should get:

Why not just use remote control and do anything from anywhere using your home computer.

Why on earth would you want to do that? A text editor is nothing special.
