Went into B&Q

for two packs of sandpaper.

One of the small triangle detail type, and one for the normal rectangular orbital finishing sander.

Found a nice rack packed with them. £12 each.

They are still on the rack.

And you didn't care to mention it to staff or management as price being wrong MrP?

Aldi or Lidl for either sanding disc MrP at £1.99 a pack,I've bought at least 12 packs of each since they were selling them.

For those of us who sand things using sandpaper wrapped round anything that comes to hand, why can't one buy a pack of ordinary sandpaper[1] and cut it into the appropriate shapes?

[1] Which actually I couldn't find anywhere in the town centre, not at Woolies or Poundshop nor anywhere similar

And how do you attach it to the appropriate sander? not only that you just might get two pieces of orbital round out of one. Personally its cheaper to buy the packs already cut to shape and have the relevant padding to affix to the sander.

Yes I will go tomorrow. :)

Not much use for the detail one but a good work around for the orbital. Reason i don't have any is because they fit the cork blocks for hand sanding so nicely. I will reverse the process as you suggest. :))

Buy rolls of hook&loop-backed sandpaper.

rolls and cutting off what you need for each job is often one of the cheaper ways.

Sometimes the long belts for bench-mounted belt sanders can also be a cheap source.

Look around dig deep, I'm sure a week or so ago they were selling the Orbital pads as well?

You show me your sums that show different - and I'll check them.

There is a fairly easy comparison in the Screwfix catalogue. Half sheet unpunched £3.39 for 2.3m. 5m roll £5.49.

My very ancient orbital sander came with a gadget for cutting sheets to length and punching the holes so I go with the rolls:-)

Looks good value but what is the quality like? I've found that Aluminim =

Oxide based papers are the best. They stay sharp for longer, resist clogging and when they do clog a bang or two clears it.

Yes but then you have to go to Slough (as in friendly bombs etc.).

glue it onto an old disc/triangle. This works for grades of paper you cant buy (anywhere conveniently) as triangles.

Well - I did go to Slough - expressly to get the trolley. Which is exactly what I wanted - and is rated to 90 Kg. Nothing special but all the others I have seen have been bulkier, non-collapsing, wimpy, or in some other way not right.

Sanding discs - marked down to 99p. :-) 20 wood; 6 stone; 4 paint (would have preferred more paint ones). But quality unknown - look OK but haven't used them yet - which is all that really counts.

Pliers - marked down to 49p. (Loads of plier-like things around, but don't think I have had a pair of ordinary pliers in decades.) Worked fine to assemble the trolley (split pins).

Man at end of checkout queue invited me to go ahead as he had a whole trolley full of stuff. Very pleasant checkout operator.

Best experience of Slough in years - probably ever.

You mean that it even beats the view driving north and seeing it in the rear view mirror?

I went to B&Q last night looking for a pulley. Just like the top one here:

Pulley is > 7 quid.

Needless to say it is still on the rack as well.

All the sandpaper I have bought from B&Q has been cr*p.
