In case anyone is reluctant to click on an unknown link: this is the trailer for a documentary about a youth orchestra in Paraguay which uses instruments made from discarded trash harvested by slum dwellers who live on a landfill dump site.

Appalling that people have to live under such conditions. But the video is inspiring. Thanks for the link.

Bert

My uncle has published a book how to make violins.

I'm always interested in books like that. Do you have an ISBN for it?

Nick

In message , Nick Odell writes

How about Uilleann pipes ?

just for the challenge

:)

The trouble with Uilleann pipes is that they are a real bugger when you try and tune the strings.

Nick

You never said that you were only a stringie

Do you want to make me a guitar?

So am I. ISBN please, or details of where to get it.

Ask me again when I retire. When I moved from making to mending in

1984 it was because I realised that I could never give a reliable delivery date to either if I mixed the two. My retirement plan is to drop the repair business and just make the stuff I want to make. Though don't ask me when that will be: my retirement date is dropping over the horizon faster than the interest rates on the investments that are supposed to be funding it :(

Nick

Ever dealt with these guys?

've got two, wonder what they are worth

Well give Jon a call and ask if you can advertise in their shop/do any work for them/advertise their shop in your work place?

Or would you be treading on each others toes? I know they repair some instruments - maybe you specialise in different ones to them? Certainly worth a call if you did try your retirement plan and needed somewhere to advertise.

I have not seen Jon since he got married and left for West Yorkshire - but he will remember me.

Straddlevarious Geoff. Did you get it?

(I thought it was rather good)
