Weird.

Was at a pals' place yesterday and the TV was on - fed to an external amp and speakers.

It was some form of chat show - and the panel had been panned across the screen. Only thing was left on the screen was going to the right speaker...

Balance control on the amp said left and right were correct. TV was connected to amp via toslink.

Any reasonable explanation? ;-)

When I was setting up the external speakers/TV/BluRay I managed to get it into a persistent AB reversed mode. It's all HDMI now but I was fiddling with a TOSLINK connection from TV to speakers to start with, until I found that only ever carried stereo even if the TV was being fed 5.1.

The AB reversal "went away" after a complete unplug and power down (unplugged) of everything.

Speakers connected wrong?

Someone messed up in the studio or wherever the program is uplinked from? Did it do it on other channels/programs?

The balance control would have showed this?

Those who produce such things don't do the sound mix. And producers aren't normally keen on doing things which look like a mistake.

Interesting, Dave. I'll see if that helps. With the toslink I couldn't think of a way to sort it without messing up other sources.

I'll add another weird thing - this time with my TV. Have only two external sources - a Humax BT PVR, and a DVD player. Both connected HDMI. Samsung Smart TV.

Switch on the PVR and the set selects the DVD input. And the DVD selects the PVR input. Change it manually and it's ok.

Only non standard thing is a HDMI DA sitting across the PVR output to feed the TV in the kitchen. So the Samsung is fed from a DA output. But it didn't always select the wrong input - it's a recent thing. I have tried powering everything down.
