Whilst trying to fettle a rotary mower this morning I noted that the engine brake cable (that links to the dead man’s handle) was a bit stiff and often the engine would keep running when the handle was released.
I hunted around the shed for some oil and came across some WD40 that I squirted down the sheath and worked the cable back and forth.
Well, after about 2 back and forths the inner wire seized completely and remains stuck even after the application of PlusGas and serious force. It’s totally seized.
I vaguely recall reading somewhere that WD40 can react badly with some lubricants. Anyone come across this in real life?
I’m resigned to buying a new cable anyway now but it would be interesting to hear if the WD40 is the likely cause or it’s just coincidence.
