washing machine inlet cap

can you get a cap for blanking off one of the inlets on a washing machine ?

because we have a combi and the distance from the boiler to the WM is 5m it's not worth plumbing the hot water, trouble is water leeks out the hot water inlet when it fills with cold so I need some sort of cap...

anyone help ?

thanks Les

Usual set up is to fit the two hoses (hot and cold) and connect both to the cold supply using a Y connector

AIUI the washer will fill front the hot supply hose, even though they are both connected to cold water.

Well, you won't be needing the hot hose anymore, so cut in half, remove one of the 'nuts', insert a suitable size coin and rubber washer in it and screw over the inlet.

No, you need to get a 'Y' piece and feed both from the cold. One is normally supplied with the machine, or you could get a replacement.

The machine probably fills from the hot line for washes of 60C or greater and from the cold line for lower temperatures and rinses.

Modern machines use so little water, that it is rarely beneficial to use hot fill anyway. Many machine don't even have hot fill any more.

Normally you use a Y splitter pipe that feeds the same cold to both taps.
