No reflection on your other comments for which thank you but IMHO nothing seems to work as well as the "Vernis pour Rouille" that I want to use. I have mucked around with all sorts of anti-rust coatings over the years, zinc rich ones, oily ones, rust 'conversion' ones, etc. and none of them are a fraction as effective as "Vernis pour Rouille". I haven't ever seen a similar product in the UK.
When I first tried it I wasn't expecting much of it but there are places on our boat where I have just a single coat of it over bare, moderately rusty, metal and it just stays there for ever with no further rust. It's also excellent for getting at rust down cracks in other paint etc. as it is *very* penetrating. In addition it dries to a hard and tough coating so works just by itself.

If it's thin enough, just use one of those pump-up fence sprayers - cuprinol etc do them. Phil.
