Having just moved in to our new property one of the first things we are having is FTTP installed. Prior to moving Openreach on behalf of Sky surveyed the property for which telecoms comes underground no poles. They texted me to say the survey was successful and included a video that explained they would dig a small hole near an exterior wall and mount a grey box in that location for the fibre to run into.
This morning a truck arrived with a digger in tow and as I write they are busy ripping up about 25m of pavement to lay a 2” conduit from our property to the nearest Openreach manhole before laying a smaller tube for the fibre across the garden. I in my ignorance thought that like at my eldest daughter’s property they would simply use any existing Openreach conduit but apparently there is none the telecoms comes underground as an armoured cable.
In the street there is already Zoom and Virgin media conduit but they cannot be shared. So Openreach are now adding to the plethora of pipes and I cannot see how this is going to be financially viable considering what our monthly subscription to Sky will be over the two years of the contract. Anyone else had this much work done for FTTP?
