TRV's for old one inch screw radiators

Thinking of installing some TVR (Thermostatic Radiator Valve) but the they all seem to come with 15mm IN/OUT fittings. I have old radiators with what seems one inch nut connectors - though the supply pipes appear 15mm

Anyone had experience of fitting these to old radiators with large connecting nuts

Thanks

The new TRVs will come with tails to suit. (15mm in/out fittings)

When you drain down to fit the TRVs remove the old tails and fit the new ones.

Could you be more specific about these "one inch nut connectors"? Most radiators - even old ones - have female BSP threads, into which adapters ("tails") are screwed, often specifically to match the particular make of valve. A very common size for the female thread is 1/2" BSP, which, perhaps confusingly, is not 1/2" overall diameter, but around 21mm. Could this be what you have?

Threaded connectors on radiators were historically sealed with assorted gunge and hemp, and can be difficult to remove after many years undisturbed. Nowadays one would use PTFE tape or one of several proprietary thread sealants.
