TOT; Smoking in cars

Even if that person is a smoker....

Used to see his bedstead, sofa, etc on the M3 near me quite often, but not seen any of them for 10+ years now.

Having made the recording, would you be subject to the Data Protection Act?

I assume that the recording itself would be evidence leading to a conviction for using a phone whilst driving.

No he cannot smoke. I wondered about this, but there is pressure I understand to ban people smoking under 18. However as you regularly see young boys smoking in the street and police are about, I find it highly unlikely that it can bhe enforced. To be honest, I think smoking inside cars is dangerous in any case, notwithstanding the extra pollution everyone is subjected to.

To be honest, its high time people actually admitted that smoking is a really bad habit and stopped doing it. It is only the civil liberties and habit/addiction issues that keep it going on. I'm sure there are many other ways in which those who need the drug can get it which is less anti social. Its all about respecting other peoples wishes. Brian

How about respecting the wishes of those who choose to smoke? Or don't they count?

Hasn't the legal age to buy tobacco in EW&S been 18 for many years? Therefore there can't be any 17 year old smokers :-P

I've never smoked, and I "like" the smoking bans in workplaces, pubs etc. But I do drink alcohol (on and off) so would object to an equally heavy-handed alcohol ban.

Speeding I do, illegal drugs I don't, the list goes on ...

You aren't allowed to sell tobacco etc. to under 18s.

However, you are allowed to smoke as long as over 16 - someone just has to give you the cigarettes.

AFAIK 17 year olds can lawfully smoke products they received as gifts, they bought outside the UK and imported for personal use, they grew for their personal use...

Buying and consuming are two very different acts.

I used to smoke, but now 'vape'.

I'm perfectly happy with sensible ideas to prevent non smokers being effected by the smoke of others. But the nonsense of saying you can't provide a comfortable area for smokers in, say, a pub smacks of punishing them. Especially since alcohol kills too.

If you started with a clean sheet on 'recreational' drugs, alcohol would be Class A. Abuse of it can damage just about every organ in the body. And it costs society billions through abuse.

Of course many will say it's perfectly safe if used sensibly. As it is. But then so are many other recreational drugs.

agreed that excess alcohol can kill - but normally only the consumer. Smoking has secondary effects on everybody round about. In a pub that the other customers and the staff. In a car, its the other passengers.

I have no problem whatsoever with people smoking, just as long as I don't have to breath it.

Standing? Why not knock them out and then leave them lying in the hard shoulder?
