Thermal stores and solar

Probably just showing my ignorance here but this one's been puzzling me and I'msure someone will know....I was discussing thermal stores (for DHW) with a heating man. Being a bit'green' he suggested getting one with a solar coil. It sounded plausible, even though I don't have anyimmediate ambitions for solar.But....How would feeding solar into a thermal store give an advantage? We use DHW in the mornings and evenings. When it's used, the boiler cuts in andheats the tank again.Pretty much the same thing would happen with a store. So, apart from the long days in the middle of summer, the solar wouldn'tcontribute at that point.On the other hand, when the solar was 'working' the tank would already be hot.Am I missing something here - it seems to me that solar heat could contribute ina preheater?(i.e. a second store, which would be expensive if it was a proper thermal store).

Oh no the brain of the care home speaks.

You have no idea of thermal buffering and its great advantages. Unless you have a boiler that modulates from 0kW to 24kW and above and will run safely on near to no flow through the heat exchanger, buffering is by far the best.

Nearly right. It runs best at maximum heat out put and the ideal flow through the heat exchanger. the efficiency drops when modulating low.

Whatever that means.
