I planning to fit a kitchen island extractor hood to a false ceiling made of single thickness plasterboard. Even if I was to use spring toggle fixings I can't see it being strong enough to support the weight. By lifting the floorboards in the room above I should be able to get through the original ceiling to be able to the gap above false ceiling (I need to do this to sort out the ducting). Any idea what kind of support for the extractor would be best ? I've not decided on an extractor yet so don't know the weight but imagine upwards of
25-30kg would be about right. I was thinking of a piece of 15mm ply or MDF about 2ft square that I would cut a hole in to match the hole in the ceiling and screw through the plasterboard to secure the extractor, thus spreading the load. Any other thoughts ?- posted
