Could somebody remind me how to add an icon to the desktop. My 'BBC News' icon seems to have been replaced by some Google icon and I want to restore the BBC icon.

Found it folks. It's in the three dots at the top right. It looks like the icon has changed from BBC News to an icon with silly Google branding.

At the top right of what?

At the top right of

formatting link
as displayed by Google Chrome. It's the usual three vertical dots inside a circle.

Huh ?. I see 'News' to the right of the three red rectangles all grouped together, just as it always is .

Then there is 'Sport' (yellow bars), Weather, (blue radial bars), iPlayer (three red bars with all ends touching), Sounds (three vertical orange bars) and Bitesize (purple drunken bars).

All depends how I configure Safari's titlebar (no reason to have Chrome here). At the moment there's icons for changing the font size, for toggling the web inspector, and for showing downloads.

The function of adding something to the desktop is neither a function of the website nor normally of the browser. It is a function of the operating system

I suspect he means a browser tab that manually allows a page URL to be saved.

Firefox which I use doesn't have that

Yup, I suspect there is some confusion here over whether the OP is talking about a part of a web page, or a part of the UI of his browser.

How a shortcut looks once placed on the desktop will often be a function of which default browser is selected. In the case of Windows, a link to a web page will typically be give an icon that matches the default browser. So change the default browser, and all the links will change to match.

The easy way to create a desktop link to a page is to "grab" whatever icon is to the left of the URL in the address bar, and drag and drop it onto the desktop.
