On the radio.. FM and AM but not all the time. Its every few seconds. I have wandered around with a portable and unplugged everything like chargers etc, and I have no boiler or gass appliences, as it sounds like a spark of an igniter or similar.
Would this be a likely cause, ie a dodgy boiler in a neighbours house that does not ignite for a while then does and the ticking stops? I have got to find it, and I'm now certain its not in my house.

I'd have though an igniter would be sparking a few times a second, rather than every few seconds?
Do you live in a rural area with electric fences nearby?

Could it be a mobile phone synchronising with its mast every now and again? That can cause funny noises on audio equipment - although every few seconds does sound a bit too often.
You are, of course, assuming it's a battery powered radio :-)

I had a faulty 3 way central heating - hot valve that produced interference at seconds intervals. The valve was continually moving between its two positions. It only did this when there was a request for heating and heating the hot water.
Recently I had problems finding was causing a continuous low volume 1khz whistle. Eventually I found it was the digital bathroom scales and replacing the battery cured the problem.
Never a ticking sound IME. It's more like "duck-a-duck, duck-a-duck" ;-)

I have one that I've n been using to wander around with. as I say its not on this morning so I'm not able to do anything else. I feel it has to be something switching even though the ticks are not clean and crisp, more rugged and noisy. Brian

Yes I've heard all of those, Like do you have a gnome in your garden, perhaps its a metro Gnome etc. Actually its not happened today. Maybe the culprit has got so fed up with it themselves its been sorted. He said looking on the bright side!
