Or have panels installed on a roof facing North-east, as seems to be the case on a mid terrace house here

That dosrn show a house with panels on!...
It does on Google Earth - 6 panels facing south west and 2 groups of 3 facing north east.

Yep no road track nearby must be a bit posh there. Just how much are they loosing compared to say a south only outlook?..
One here next door mostly shaded by trees suppose it is Green;!
Maybe twice the capital cost, but a choice in burning limited stocks of fossil fuel and puting more CO2 in the atmosphere and not doing either of these.

Well facing East or West loses 25% I don't have anything for NE, must be a lot more. 75% loss at least.
