I haven't found much need to turn electrical kit on or off when there is a power cut.

I did say "obviously" :)
However it's not such a dumb thought. Some people might be rocking a UPS or two. In fact I was for a while. However 2 sets of batteries later with total usage being nil, I really couldn't justify it.
Thanks Theo, that looks like what I was asking for but I will investigate the wired route as I have till mid March before I have a need for it.
