Simple measuring of an alcove, etc.

Years ago, I had a tape measure with a lead and or scriber on the back ofthe housing.To fit, say, a shelf to an alcove, you merely extended the tape measurewithin the alcove, locked it, and transferred that dimension directly tothe shelf, using the lead in the housing. No need to know the actualmeaurement. I found this incredibly useful for all sorts of things. Anything similar on the market? No real need to know the true dimension,just to transfer it to something else. As you'd do with internal calipers. But the ability to do it over greater distances than calipers - normaltape measure lengths. The tape measure I had (broken a long time ago) would also allow you to dothis for say the shelf length, with a second lead/scriber at the front ofthe housing, and transfer that direct to a second shelf, but not usedanything like as much as easier to measure anyway.

You might not positively want to measure, but measuring of things is a feature of the Apple iPhone 12 Pro (and Pro Max).

Dick Strawbridge fitted shelves to one of the turret rooms at his French mansions. Last weeks 'escape to the chateaux'.

The room wasn't even a complete circle, it had a flat bit of on one side.

I take it to do what I want it also draws the marks on the work piece? Fiendishly clever, these i-phones. ;-)
