Sheet metal screw suppliers.

Anyone know where I can get sheet metal screws like the ones here?

assumed screwfix would do them but alas no. B&Q, Homebase etc. round where I live don't have anything like them.

Ouch! At 32mm long, it would be a bit on the painful side.

Tim,

A proper engineers merchants or fastner specialist should have those off the shelf

I'll have a shufti at a "proper" hardware store and see what they have but it could end up costing me a lot more in fuel than postage.

If the soles are thick enough, these are shorter and drill their own hole, but you'll need to screw them a fair way in to get to the thread: Screwfix

Screwfix do sheet metal joiners which are like your link shows.

Close, but I think their lack of threads will mean that they'll pull out too easily.

Cheers.

Oh no they don't!

Well if they do, I've yet to find them! Seriously, slotted hex head, self tapping, threaded all the way to the tip, in 1/4" 3/8" & 1/2" lengths?

PC case screws (the coarse thread ones). I imagine most of us have a surplus by now.

You'll need an awl (NOT a drill) to start the holes. This sort of self-drilling screw won't self drill into a shoe sole anyway, unless you cut the threaded part off and use it in a drill chuck. Trying to drive a spike-ended screw in wth just a screwdriver is going to slip and skewer yourself.
