Yes, I know about those, thanks. It was something like that but designed for the diameters I have, and maybe in plastic, that I was hoping to find.

I would have to use those in conjunction with a rubber bung or similar, I think, to get the diameter correct. And that ends up like the well nuts..

Can you find a hole saw the same dimensions as the tube, then glue the wood on the end of the tube.

Get some 15mm hardwood dowel, drill a 6.5mm hole down the centre, cut a vee-notch in one end, cut partly down the dowel from the centre of the vee. Get a second piece of dowel, drill an 8mm hole down the centre, cut one end to fit (approximately) in the vee, fix a 6mm tee-nut on the flat end. (Note, the tee-nut may need a slightly larger dowel hole than 8mm, depending on where you buy them from). If you want belt'n'braces then put a smear of adhesive inside the tube when you assemble. Simples!

Yes, something like this would probably be the way to go for a totally D-I-Y solution. But I was hoping for an off-the-shelf item that would do a similar job.

Also, I should perhaps have said that these should be demountable, and I am not sure this would work.

Put some adhesive on the vee before tightening, once it has cured you can undo the screw and de-mount.

It would take a couple of hours (at most) to make a batch of these, so trivial to DIY ... (and this *is a DIY forum*)

Try “threaded spring insert”. Lots of hits on eBay and elsewhere.
