Scaffolding - how much does it cost?

Sorry folks, another request for a ball park figure of costs.

How much would scaffolding be expected to cost for scaffolding to replace soffits and gutters on a block of four maisonettes? I guess that's a similar size to a pair of semis, just a two storey block.

Doing a Google search (both Web and Groups) has produced a whole range of figures from a few hundred to a few thousand so I'm a bit lost.

The scaffolding was only needed/used for a couple of days but I suspect that has little bearing on the cost.

As before, North London.

Its probably a team of four for a day to put it up..and take it down..taking 2 days int total..so mebbe 1200 quid or so?

Yup, not far from my ballpark figure. Take down time may be around half the put up time.

Put up and take down costs predominate. Lots of things may skew that figure though, accessibility, overhead cables, obstructions etc.

For such a short duration, why not hire access tower(s) which you can erect yourself?

The accessibility is pretty average, quiet (but a bit narrow) side road, no unusual obstructions.

Well exactly, but I'm trying to assess whether we're being charged too much for some work that has been done, not aiming to do some work myself.

So the charge of £2180 (plus 30% or so for overheads and profits) does seem a bit excessive.

Thanks all, any further input would be welcome though.

I think its not that excessive for London..the key is to get a selection of quotes and go with teh people you feel you can trust..usually the ones who appear to be busy and honest, rather than the ones who present the most glib assurances.....

OK, thanks, so that's one vote for "about right". :-)

I'm currently having an extension built - the cost of the scaffolding for 2.5 sides of a 6 bedroom detached house to roof level is 3 grand, so your figure doesn't look unreasonable to me.
