Saunier Duval spares?

I volunteered to post this on behalf of a family member so I may have got some errors in this post.

The boiler is a 3.5yr old Themaclassic Plus F 30 E which contains some form of hot water reservoir. This cylindrical tank is in two halves and the joint is sealed with an O ring around 5inch dia. It is believed that this O ring is the cause of a water leak from the boiler (CORGI "engineer" has attended). The ring is not a spare part and it looks like the whole tank assembly was changed at some later date from plastic to s/steeel and this is the only solution af £300.

The questions are:

Replacement O rings. The local hydraulic and agricultural engineers have failed top come up with a replacement. Are they items that can be made to order? -who by?

Any suggestions for resealing the vessel? The "CORGI" tried silicon sealant but I've no idea of the type or how long it was left to cure. - I've no idea of the type of plastic of the consrtuction of the joint.

Since the "tank" construction has been substatially revised in the life of the boiler and the boiler is 3.5 yrs old is it worth pressing "fit for purpose" "contribution to cost/substantial discount from manufacturer" etc through the supplier?

In UK law, your claim is against the supplier if the goods are not fit for purpose/not of merchantable quality.

Whether he can get his money back from his supplier/the manufacturer is his problem.

Then again, thinking outside the box (literally) is this item just an expansion tank?

The advice given in the instructions for my Stelrad Ideal Combi was that if the expansion tank failed, it would probably be more cost effective to fit a suitably sized expansion vessel external to the boiler. Perhaps that would be an option in this case?

Regretably not . from the Suanier Duval web site it is just an insulated cylinder but it is also the mout for two sensors

Larger O-rings can be made to size by joining stock O-ring material of the right diameter and length. The join is made use an adhesive (possibly a contact rubber type).

cheap boiler - often need expensive spares. quality boiler - less expensive spares needed less often.

Making up 'o' rings from cord is usually done with superglue (very small amount), with the alignment being achieved by laying the two ends in a Vee shaped groove. You can buy both the cord and complete kits - I keep one for emergancies along with a metric and Imperial 'all sizes' boxes.
