Rescuing slate floor

Aug 16, 2012 2 Replies

I had a slip last weekend and dropped a bottle of dishwasher cleaner onto the riven slate floor in our kitchen. I did my best to mop up and rinse, but the floor now has areas which appear bleached. Any suggestions...

It's probably stripped the sealant which should have been applied immediately after tiling. You'd be wise to consult a tiling centre to find out what you'll need to put it right

It's probably some kind of mineral that has been absorbed into the slate grain.

Washing the floor should distribute the offending patches over the whole floor so that everything looks the same, which is usually the best you can hope for.
