Reliable Toilet Seat Fixings

Hi, The standard self-assembly Toilet Seat Fixings (two threaded headless brass bolts, which you thread into the hinge at one end (how do get this tight?) and fix with a wing-nut at the other) seem to me to be inherently un-reliable and prone to loosening.

Tips,tricks & alternatives please

Squirt silicone in the oversized holes in the pan. That stops em sliding about under the straining and heaving.

Look for the less common models which have a bar hinge at the back. Both B&Q and H/base have these.

Or put some plastic pipe/sleeving or whatever around bolt for similar effect. There is a special tool that is supposed to help with tightening these up.

Neither of the 2 new bogs I just fitted had this type of fitting. One had plastic bolts which worked quite well and the other had cunning top access only fittings. So perhaps the horrible bolts we're used to are a thing of the past .
