Hello all,
I'm replacing a pendant light fitting, unfortunately the switch cable is not marked. Also, the two wires going to the light bulb are also not marked.
Is there a way to work out which of the black wires is the switch cable?

one of the black wires should have a red sleeve (bit of red insulating tape) - if so, that's the switch line. If not, Is the old fitting still connected? Are there 2 or 3 wires going in to the fitting? Let us know first. Hugh

If the inside of the pendant has;
1 black cable connected to the brown flex 3 reds connected in the middle in 'loop' 2 blacks connected to the blue flexThen the single black is the switch and the two blacks are the neutrals, most probably.
If it's anything different you will have to get a tester out and check, with the light switched on, which black is live, and which isn't in respect to earth.
