refractory motar --possible stupid question

Hi all

I know a little about DIY and nothing about about refractory mortar. I am building a BBQ and have got a bag of refractory motar with NO instructions. Do I just add water. Are there any special ways of applying it. The shop where I bought it from said "Dunno mate we dont sell much of that"

Thanks

Thats what you normally do with mortar, so probably. Thing is not to get it too wet, want it to not slop off the trowel.

Depends how hot you're going to get it. For high temperatures, get it ready mixed (with minimal water content) and then (the important bit) get it close to working temperature ASAP after application. If you're mixing from dry, then use the minimum water you can work and heat it afterwards

Purimachos in Bristol are very helpful and good at selling small bags of weird furnace-building materials direct from their factory.
