Re-sticking flat roof felt :(

Not a lot sticks to bitumen. Could you paint-on some bitumen/rubber emulsion?

You can get cartridges of roof and gutter sealant - they are bitumen based and will probably do the job.

Since I've now gained 8" of plastic under the edge of the felt, would a better idea be to screw something (ideally plastic) along the edge - like a batten - and seal the screws ?

When a 4" overlap failed on one flat roof, I found it possible to lift the edge enough to paint roofing felt adhesive underneath it, using a fencing paint brush.

I did a whole roof using 'cold adhesive' you can also buy cold lap cement, which is like a bitumen gunge. The roof is still in place as far as I can see 30+ years on! We moved 20 years ago but I walk past the old house from time to time and I've not seen any sign of the roof being replaced.

I think the secret is that, when I did it, it was bl**dy hot and I took great care to ensure the joints were well sealed and rolled with a wall paper seam roller.

Apart from skin and clothes ... :o)

bitumen however sticks perfectly. So bitumen paint/adhesive/etc it is.

Thinking again, about this, I'm wondering if there's any reason why I shouldn't just use something like some decorative bricks to weigh it down. The porch is strong enough.

Although with the weather set to continue like this for another week, the felt is so pliant, if I am going to lift it to stick, there'll never be a better time ...
