If there was any serious concern that a partial eclipse is going to put the lights out then

1) shouldn't it come from NESO as a warning (not from octopus as a thinly disguised puff piece)?
2) maybe we should panic next time a nasty big black cloud comes over in the evening, the eclipse will happen when the sun is pretty close to setting anyway.

Actually, I have only just learned that the increase in spending on Net Zero could not have happened without Brexit.

It is a genuine Brexit Benefit. We have found one.

Whether it was worth it is another matter. But it is a clear benefit. Something we could not have done inside the EU.

It's almost like you missed it was a promotional offer using the excuse of an eclipse ?

I simply think that is untrue. EU is pursuing similar routes

It doesn't matter if the original network power cut was due to renewables, the problems were caused by a delay in switching to a local backup, which is highly unlikely to be renewabes.

That's interesting, so the 90 seconds wasn't (as first reported) the time it took Network Rail to switch to *their* local backup supply.

It might help if they said how much sooner.

Indeed. For example if previously state-run BT said they'd install a phone line within 60 days, you could rely on them turning up on day 59.

Back in the early 1980s (so state-run) I had a phone line installed in 5 days!

OK, it was requested by BT Research at Martlesham so that I could develop some software I was selling them (it was to generate test data, I think for System X).

almost as bad as the Local Authority my daughter came across when trying to buy a house. They should respond within 10 working days."Miss x who is dealing with your case only works 1 day per week, so it could be 10 weeks before you get a reply."

Except they aren't allowed to spend as much money as the UK subsidizing energy companies because of their pesky rules.

However, you do rather hint at a slight oddity. If the UK and EU are independently pursuing the same goals, then the suggestion is they must be worthwhile ?

LOL! You need a lesson in logic. Of COURSE they are worthwhile. Just not to the citizens they are supposed to serve.

Or even that cooperation between the UK and the EU would make things work better or happen quicker!

Or alternatively, that neither are.

Apart from the relatively small number of natural disasters, nearly all the problems in the world are caused by governments.

Driving a bus is an OK job - until you get some passengers. Try to avoid them whenever possible.

Now there you have a genuine "Brexit Benefit". The UK wouldn't be able to subsidise renewable energy initiatives if we were still in the EU. Isn't it strange that people like Farage are _not_ shouting about this Brexit success?>
