Cough....... Splutter.....
What's up with Forte Agent ?
Free if you'll put up with minor limitations you'll never come across unless you use them.
Free for 1 month, uncrippled.
The full bag o' mashings is only USD 29.

He asked for reliable. That rules that one out :-}
Outlook was rather prone to losing where it was up to, so you'd end up having to unsub from all your groups, resubscribe, download all the headers, and finally mark all read to get back to something approaching your last known position.
For a really excellent news reader and e-mail client Turnpike VER 5.02 is superb, not seen anything thats as good:-)))
Excellent worth every penny!...

Been reliable for me for the past several years. And I don't even bother with quotefix...
cheers, clive
I love Forte Agent, nearly as much as I liked Turnpike, which doesn't work as well on non-Demon systems.
I once lost most of my settings including the registration key for Agent. I simply contacted them one evening and received a _personal_ reply within an hour - not bad for 9 or 10 o'clock at night - returning all my necessary information.
This is a quite early version of Agent - I intend to upgrade when ICBA...

Personally, I find TP5 now pretty awful to use, been on TP6 for years, I know some like it though.
You need a universal licence to use it with a non-Demon ISP.
Also, the newsreading bit of Outlook is really OE anyway....

TP, has worked as well as it did on Demon, while I've been with AOL, FreeUK, NTL, UkOnline, VirginMedia & now, Be.

Not as I've ever noticed and I've been using bog standard MS products since Windows came out.

I use MicroPlanet Gravity newsreader. It's free and you can set up custom rules to get rid of cross postings and the various troll rubbish that some groups are prone to get. Much better than OE which isn't very flexible.

I did try TP6 but didn't warm to it. I would like to try 5 as I certainly liked the off-line abilities of the older versions.
Yup, I've got keys thanks.

Drop me a line off group...
I don't think its the newsreader at fault. Blueyonder's news service is Crap. Their retention time for some news groups is only two or three days. I use OE both at work and at home. I have Blueyonder at home and use Demon Internet at work. The Demon news service is much better than Blueyonder's. I don't really have a problem with OE when connected to Demon, only with Blueyonder.
I suspect that you will either need to change your ISP or subscribe to a real news service.

My problem with TP was the structure of my email address, i.e. two names separated by a '.' before the '@' symbol. I found no easy way to get TP to like that :-)
