It is the acceptability of that description of the weight, not the actual amount dispensed that was my point. The dictionary translates "livre" as "book" (obviously not the intended meaning) and "pound" (rather than half a kilo which is the nearest convenient metric weight).

You are talking nonsense. "Livre" is simply old-fashioned for "demi-kilo".

Jesus, you can't even search properly. "Un livre" is a book, "une livre" is a pound, that is half a kilo.
