Usenet convention is bottom posting, so all do it. Google and it colours the indentations for bottom posting reading. Bottom post because that is the standard. If you don't like scrolling in Outlook use Ctl End and you directly to the bottom. Easy, simple all going one way.

No! You need a square cut. I just refitted my bathroom with all new plumbing using JG Speedfit throughout. It's my first plumbing job and it works a treat. I didn't want to buy the special cutter so I used an automatic pipe cutter which scores deep enough into the pipe for you to finish off carefully with a Stanley knife. You can also use them to cut copper. Bonus, not like the JG cutter. Several weeks on and no leaks...

If you walk into a Pub and don't like the Pub, it's beer or it's clientele, you find another Pub to drink in (or should I say any normal person would). The same is true of Usenet / web forums, no one other than a cretin would burst into a Pub, tell all present that they know sod all and than tell the regulars how to behave, the moreling 'Aiden' received in this group is tame compared to what he would get if he tried the same stunt face to face - in that respect 'Aiden' is a guilty as those he complains about...

If you want to control what goes and what doesn't in a Pub you become a owner or manager, if you want to do the same on Usenet or a web forum you set up a moderated group, but unless you have a specialist clientele don't expect many customers.

Isn't there another UK DIY group? Free something or other? Perhaps that would be more suited to Aidan.

All the 'free' groups I've come across (mostly through others cross postings) seem to be like the wild west compared to Usenet, so I suspect that Aiden would still have problems - what he really needs is a moderated group with him as moderator...

A newsgroup is very much like a pub, many people 'talking' about many different subjects at once and just as conversations move on in a pub, for example - you're in a group discussing the price of fish and go off to get another pint, when you come back the discussion has moved on the price of lead, do you try and steer the conversation back or move on - even if that means joining another discussion, most would do the latter. The same is true on Usenet, don't like how the thread has evolved then stop reading it, or at least that branch. Any *normal* person knows that and does so...

But then there are some people who only write things that are relevant to the current thread.

There are also people who write what they want, no matter how irrelevant, offensive or tedious; they write stuff that is only comprehensible to their small clique of 6 or so, and have no consideration for the others (6? 600? 6000?) who may actually read the posts in the hope of learning about the threads' subject matter. This latter group write what they want because they are sad gits, who have nothing better to do with their time. I had hoped that you might not want to include yourself in the latter group. It seems that I was mistaken.

I can accept the format. There is some useful, even valuable, information posted in some threads. That usually stops when the clique of sad gits, the MM FWs, get started.

Please refer to the posts on 8th & 9th October, which mentioned another thread in which I had made a small but constructive input correcting misleading information previously given by Andy Hall. I was amply rewarded by his performance of verbal gymnastics in his efforts to avoid admitting that he had made a (whisper) mistake.

Of course, I will finish this, I have better things to do. Unlike you. But first, I just had to find out what ?moreling' was.
