Professional Cleaning - is it worth it?

Cicero, Dave, The Medway Handyman, Andy,

What you all say makes sense, I think I'll just do it myself in conjunction with my usual cleaner.

Thanks again to all

My brother hired one, once. The only thing we could tell for sure that she did was to clean the children's finger marks off the TV screen with a brillo pad. She was told not to come back.

Trouble is that knowing what cleaning products to use is actually somewhat scientific, and that's not normally Mrs.Mop's strong point. It's probably different for specialists, e.g. someone who only does carpet cleaning is more likely to know what they're doing.

Indeed. Being able to follow the instructions on the bottle would be an improvement. Quite often you would find cleaners mixing two products to make their own 'special' stuff. Explaining that it was possibly dangerous, and that detergents were formulated by people with degrees in chemistry and a lot of experience simply didn't deter them.

Mostly yes, the cheaper '£12 any size room' merchants are to be avoided though. NCCA membership is worth looking for.

Probably following advice from The British Museum who used something similar to clean the Elgin Marbles sometime in the 1930s.

For me there is nothing more rewarding than detailing a car.

Very interesting, the cleaning company that cleans our school everyday is terrible; they dip the mop in bucket once and squeeze it out and then proceed to mopping the whole dinner hall floor without rinsing/ dipping the mop in the bucket again, then the same water and mop is used in the corridors. The glass is never without streaks.

Also won't be able to claim it as a taxable business expense.

For renting you need CMA (Cover My Arse). Carpets and upholstery can harbour mites, moths etc. that can exacerbate asthma, so getting professional, registered cleaning shifts the blame - similar to electricity and gas.
