problem with changing an oven element

Hi Chaps

a quick question for you oven experts, I changed the grill element on my oven

A neff 1452 built in job, and reconnected everything exactly as the old element.

However, even with the cooker switch off I am getting some heating of the replaced element (slightly warm to the touch, not hot enough to burn).

How can this be? I have been very careful replacing the connections and ensuring that all earths are connected properly and not touching anything they shouldn't, but it seems to me some current must be getting through from somewhere.

Any ideas?

Is it a single grill element or dual ? if it Dual which part is warming up ? Can the element be used for one of the oven modes ? Has the polarity at the terminal block been proven ? Does it work correctly in all modes during normal use ?

two elements,four terminals.

yes there is a grill only, grill + circotherm, and top and bottom element setting.

It will only fit in one way round, and is fitted identically to the part which was there from new: it is also identical to the top oven element, which I have previously replaced successfully.

I'm not sure yet about point 4, I was reluctant to turn it on in all modes in case there was something wrong with the switching, or the earthing..

I may just have underestimated the time it takes for an element to cool down sufficiently.

I'll try it out when everything's cooled down properly.

thanks for responding.

Elements run seriously hot. If yours is getting just a bit warm with the power off, maybe the switch is in the neutral and the element, or the switch perhaps, is leaky.

Whatever it is, test it and find out, as one possibility would be a risk. If competent to.

yes that's what I was thinking too....

I am an electronics engineer by trade although I'm more into chips than big electrics.

In fact when I left it much longer it did cool down completely so maybe that was a bit of a red herring. (I was never much good at thermodynamics!)

Anyway it seems to be working ok now, although it does take a long time to get up to temp just using the grill element, maybe the thermostatic switching is a bit off, I'll compare it with the grill in the top oven for speed, and take it from there.

Thanks for the response guys.
