Because they're phony. They're really 'watermelons' - green on the outside but red underneath. So the environmental posturing is just a fig leaf for the real agenda, which is global Communism. They won't be happy until they get that and we all end up starving to death as a consequence.

actually from experience of some greens they get a little miffed when the public voluntarily respond, and Government can still be seen allowing investment in oil projects. What idealists seem to not get is that one has to have an insurance against failure of one form of energy and like it or not Oil is that back up

Pragmatism is the rule, and I don't really think if we were on the brink of overheating the planet, they would not take a similar stance. It does not mean they want to not go with the greenest method,just that one cannot load all ones eggs into one basket. We have all seen what happens with that. Brian

No we have not because all the eggs have never been in one basket with electricity generation and even when it was predominantly coal, that worked fine.

The answer was that the Green party was 100% correct in their assumptions about climate change, the burning of fossil fuels should have been banned 20 years ago and I was stupid to think otherwise.

The discussion was joined by people who didn't believe that there were times when the wind didn't blow in the UK and by those who thought we had enough water to generate all our electricity from hyro.

I read their election manifesto many years ago and it was very left wing. Everything should be brought back into state ownership but at the same time complaining that the state was incompetent running the NHS and the welfare system! In more recent years their public face policies seem more toned down but I still get the impression of utopia for all.

Its not really global communism, its more global neofeudalism.

Back in the day Feudalism worked because all the wealth was in land and its ability to grow food, and the Knightly class who owned it all had one duty, and that was to protect their peasants from being ousted by someone else's peasants.

Today, the powers that be have realised you no longer need people to create wealth: You can do it all with robots and machines, so keeping the people happy is really not necessary. Worse, people are just a bloody nuisance whining and complaining and needing to be fed. And wanting pay rises, so 'freedom of movement' which really means 'cheaper slaves' is what THEY want.

And then inflate the s*it out of everything to put the plebs back in their place by eroding all their asset values, and lend it all back to them at massive interest rates, so they will just sit there as breeding stock in case you need what's in their DNA.

Probably sussed that the only viable source of sustainable largely CO2 free energy is nuclear.
