I had looked at tall buildings being built in my area with what looked like a very dubious flue like gap between the isocyanurate insulation and the external cladding[1] feeling it was a firestorm waiting to happen but a big building architect friend informed me that there would have been provision for horizontal fire baffles at each floor level to negate that effect.
Trying to avoid delving too deeply into the argument I feel that the fire retarded isocyanurate insulation would have been fine unless subjected to sustained furnace like temperatures from the flamable external cladding, improperly specified.
I'd have no problem using isocyanurate insulation in the future from any source, including the so called guilty culprits, as I view it as a safe material and the blame to be incorrectly directed.
[1] In this case it was a commercial building with what looked like ceramic cladding and so fireproof.
