Plastic Trunking

I know this might be a really dumb question but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for in the regular DIY sheds.

What I'm after is some wide plastic trunking which can be used to hide two 15mm pipes which run alongside each other.

Anyone know who I can order this trunking from?

Try any electrical wholesaler[1] for this.

[1] Why are electrical wholesalers so called when they always have retail outlets?

is 40mm x 16mm, which should be enough for 2 x 15mm diameter, provided the pipes are routed very close.

I don't know if these are internal or external dimesions. If external, then the 40mm x 25mm may be better.

I think you'll find a plumbers merchants will be a better place to go. ..

The stuff sold by plumbers merchants is generally designed for use with heating pipework in mind and is a little more tolerant of heat. Also it's usually more shatter resistant than electrical trunking. As we know, plumbers nail everything in place and electrical trunking cracks when banging nails through it! The kind I usually use for pipes has clips that fit to the wall so you can route the pipe as normal, attached to these clips and a 3 sided lid clips onto this. With normal electrical trunking for pipework you have to put clips in the trunking otherwise you have inadequate support. ..

You can get clip on PVC covers designed to hide two pipes - rather easier than using trunking. They use a sort of special double clip that holds the pipes and also locates the cover. Seen them in the sheds - not expensive.

I've bought it from both B&Q and Wickes. One sells it with the pipe clips, the other sells the pipe clips separately (can't remember which is which).

I've heard comments from a couple of people who use electrical conduit who said it sagged if you put hot pipes in it.

Plumb Center Unit 7 The Western Centre Western Road Bracknell Berkshire RG12 1RW

Tel: 01344 311246

Open until 12 tomorrow. They are at the back of Homebase (more or less) in Western Rd.

or

PTS Unit 1, Brickfields Ind Est, Kiln Ln, Bracknell RG12 1NQ

Tel: 01344 451 244

They are tucked away near to BuilderCenter in Easthampstead Rd (at the end close to Twin Bridges roundabout.)

Alternatively, B&Q have quite a good range of electrical trunking. If you haven't been to their new wareshouse place at Farnborough it's worth it and is a fairly quick trip from Bracknell if you cut down to the M3.

It's a larger store than the Reading one and doesn't smell.

Drove round this area three times today - they are hiding this place rather well because I didn't find it!

Missed this one twice as well. However I drove round again this evening and spotted the sign to PTS just past the BuilderCenter. Followed the sign, couldn't find PTS. Maybe in daylight I will spot it.

One very good thing about this situation though - the road on which BuilderCenter is comes out at the back of Homebase - I never knew that and always drove round the twin bridges roundabout to get there. From now on I won't have to!

Of course. How do you think they keep out the DIYers?

OK. BuilderCenter is at one end of Easthampstead Rd. Go to the other end as though you were going to the back of Homebase. That is Western Avenue. Make a left on Western Avenue and you will pass Downmill Rd. on the left. The Western Centre is just past there on the left. If you reach Downmill Rd (leads to tip) then that's too far. Turn into the Western Centre and you will find PlumbCenter in there - it isn't obvious from the road.

Found them both yesterday. The one by BuilderCentre had a couple of trucks unloading out front so I couldn't park. As I drove down the road to go back home I happened to glance left, and there was the other one! Also found MM Electrical (?) almost next door, will be handy for the odd electrical bits and pieces.
