Plasterboard fixing ?

In my house I avoided the dreaded plasterboard by using Fermacell (Dogs Spehroids)

My Parents house is however made of standard 1/2" plasterboard studded partitions.

I want to fits a wall mount for a reasonably light weight LCD TV ... 26" weighs 10.1Kg

After googling around the possible mount, as it requires swivel is this Hama one ...

mounting plate is 100 x 80 .... so assume 3 cavity toggles used (2 at top and one at bottom.... what is the considered view, is this strong enough in plasterboard.

Unfortunately position does not line up where there is a stud.

I wouldnt, many people would. I've had too many of those sort of loads fail. You could attach the tv to a piece of ply, which is attached to the PB with 8 or so fixings.

That is plan B...

I'd suggest upgrading it to plan A :-)

IMO 100x80 is way to small for that weight on swivel mount, too much leverage.

The PB can take the weight but not on those centres.

I'd suggest a 300x240x12mm ply plate fixed to the wall first with the mount attached to that. It will be hidden but chamfer the board edges and paint if it bothers you.

If you use good quality cavity fixings (plastic or metal) that actually expand behind the board then I'd be happy to use just 4 near the corners of the board. eg:

(but a faff to install w/o the specialist setting tool):

(these don't expand behind but are v good - this brand only - note bigger size used:

Hollow wall anchors will do that without any difficulty.

mounting plate is tiny as others have said - the holes for the fixings are so close they could weaken each other.

Ply is the way forward IMO.

Thnx ... BTW ... the last type are absolutely superb in the Fermacell boards in my own house ...

What about cavity spring toggles ...

these before as they spread load over such a wide fixing area ....or are these now considered old-hat

Generally not well liked - they don't seem to work as well as the sleeve anchors, and the toggle falls off irretrievably if you need to remove the screw.

Don't like them! You have to make quite a big hole to pass the toggle through and, as others have said, you can't subsequently undo them without losing the toggle inside the cavity.

The only fixing which I would even consider for this application is the one (above) which TMH lists as 'second choice'. Even then, I would probably use them to fix a sheet of 1/2" ply to the wall, and then screw the TV bracket to *that*.

Incidentally, my feeling is that that particular bracket is a bit marginal for a 26" TV even though it claims to be ok for even bigger ones. Even if it's rigid enough, it has next to no articulation. We've got a 26" TV in our kitchen, mounted on a heavy duty 2-stage folding bracket - which allows the set to be swung out at right angles to the wall, and pointed either at the food preparation or breakfast area, as required.
