Ping TNP re UK Grid

Coal is almost at FSD, and wind is still in the doldrums (IYSWIM).

However, there seems to be an unusual usage pattern today: there was no afternoon dip, and an extra ~10GW seems to have been demanded during that time.

At 17:24 the demand is 55 GW and the evening peak is still to come.

What's going on? Where are renewables when you most need them?

Well I'm trying Terry. 1.7kWh off my panels today and 2.2kWh yesterday!

Golly. nearly 20p/day worth of electricity.

For which WE have to pay nearly a quid.

Even flat out wind is only 10% of flat out coal. 3GW is sorta useful but the fact it comes and goes is the problem.

When I looked at about 1600 I was suprised how flat the demand was most of the day and the level, around 50GW. I wonder if the UK has finally got back to work after Christmas?
